Taking it Global Project A year project (Patti, Anne and Emerge teachers)

Through the second term Anne introduced the class to Haitian culture showing her own photos and discussing her time there. The students learned about the causes and possible solutions to poverty in the region, and learned about Haitian way of life.
Patti and Anne led students to play an interactive simulation on the "Taking it Global" website above. The simulation allows students to play the role of an agricultural family in Haiti, and presents several health and economic challenges. After playing the simulation, students were much more aware of the relationships within the Haitian family and the effect of their choices. They saw how their choices impacted the entire family and its future.
Fundraiser
This March, under the direction of Anne McClement, students organized a fundraising carnival to raise money for the Red Cross Organization working in Haiti. This involved several parent volunteers and others pitched in. Some teachers chose to match the funds raised and our "Out of School Care" contributed as well. All students had great fun at the events.
Mrs. Lorentz is coordinating this with her Young Junior Achievement study as they planned an ice cream sale. Those funds were also designated for the Red Cross Relief Effort.
